From the moment you step through our door to the moment you leave and beyond, you should expect nothing less than the highest standard of care from a warm and welcoming team. First impressions

We extend a warm welcome to all patients even before they step through the door at St John’s Dental Practice. When you get in touch to make your appointment, our friendly reception team will help arrange a suitable appointment time and deal with any queries. And when you arrive, you’ll be greeted by pleasant, compassionate staff and an environment that’s inviting and relaxing.

First appointment

You’ll be given a medical questionnaire to fill out, and have an opportunity to adjust any personal details on your file. You’ll also receive a full examination by the dentist, which may include digital photographs and x-rays, along with lots of questions about your lifestyle, general health and oral hygiene habits. If a dental problem is identified, this will be discussed fully.

Treatment planning

If further treatment is required, a plan will be drawn up that details clearly everything you can expect from our service, and the costs involved. You will have as much time as you need to ask questions and consider your options – including dental finance. You’ll also be advised of the aftercare you can expect, and if you’ll need to take any time off to recover from treatment. Once you have confirmed you’re happy with your treatment plan, treatment can proceed – in some instances during the same appointment, especially if the dentist needs to eliminate pain. In other cases, you may need to return for a future appointment at a convenient time.

Post treatment

We won’t send you home after treatment without a clear understanding of what you need to do to keep your teeth and gums clean and infection-free. We will recall you for follow-up checks and hygiene appointments, and will endeavour to see you as soon as possible if you have any concerns following your treatment.

Maria Hardman

GDC Number: 60600

BDS (Birm) 1985 DUI (Lille) 2004 MJDF RCS (Eng) 2012 MFDS RCS (Ed) 2012

Maria’s 35 years of experience as a clinician is invaluable and underpins her expertise in dental implants. From first steps to completion, Maria guides and supports patients through the whole process. Her skills and manner fill both her patients and colleagues with confidence, and the work she produces is widely recognised as exceptional. Maria is rightly proud of her outstanding audited success rate of over 99% (5 year data). It is obvious that Maria loves what she does, transforming people’s confidence and helping them to feel good about themselves – her work is ultimately life changing.

Maria says: “I’m a dentist with a special interest in dental implants; it is just an area that has fascinated me for a long time – and I’ve been directly involved with dental implants since 1996. I’ve completed many courses in the UK, Europe and the USA, and have learnt from some of the grandfathers of implant dentistry such as Leonard Linkow (who was one of the real pioneers) and Hilt Tatum. I am now an honorary clinical teaching fellow at Warwick Medical School at Warwick University on their Implantology Masters Programme and I’ve also been a clinical tutor for the University of Central Lancashire.

I now teach implantology to other dentists and have lectured in New York, Germany, Lithuania, Dubai, Singapore, South Africa, Morocco, Barbados and extensively throughout the UK.“ After graduating from Birmingham University in 1985, she worked in associate and locum positions, as well as running her own practice, since 1990. Maria’s real interest in dental implants, started in 1996 and she attended courses throughout the world, culminating in a Master’s degree in Implantology at Lille University Medical School.

She received her diploma in 2004. In 2006 Maria received a Certificate and Diploma of Honour for Clinical Radiological Anatomy of the head and neck. Maria has been involved in the placement and restoration of dental implants since 1997. Since then has placed in excess of 7000 implants, completed over 200 cases of full arch immediate loading. She has worked with numerous implant systems to include: Nobel Biocare, Astra, Straumann, 3i, Anklyos, Osteocare, Biohorizons, Adin, and Bredent. Maria was the founder and former president of the Oxford Society of Oral Implantology, which was inaugurated in 2004; through this she was heavily involved in mentoring postgraduate dentists in implantology. Maria held a post as clinical tutor on the Implant Masters programme at the University of Central Lancashire Preston, was an honorary Clinical Teaching Fellow at the University of Warwick in addition to mentoring colleagues within her own training centre. In 2006, she decided to realise her dream of designing and creating her ‘perfect ‘practice,’ incorporating purpose built clinical and training facilities. It was with these thoughts in mind that the blueprint for Clinic 95 was first conceived and the rules put in place for a truly state-of-the-art facility, which opened in 2010.

We want to make the world a better place

Whether it’s getting involved in our community or working to help others further afield, we take our social responsibility seriously. After all, what’s the point of providing a service in Dorchester if we don’t engage with everything else that’s going on here? We’ve found that giving our team the time and means to volunteer and raise money for good causes – together or individually, at home or abroad – makes them feel great about giving back, and creates bonds that no office party can compete with! As well as volunteering and fundraising for Bridge2Aid, our team aims to make a regular commitment to local causes, too.
