Your Invisalign Journey.

Our patient journeys, here at St John’s Dental Practice are designed for a smooth and efficient treatment process with the highest quality of service that you’d expect. The following is what a typical Invisalign treatment plan would look like:

1
At your first consultation, our clinician will examine your teeth and determine whether you are suitable for Invisalign treatment. We will scan your teeth to show what your new smile could look like and discuss the treatment in detail, cost and payment options.
2
Once your aligners are ready, you will come in for your first set of Invisalign aligners to be fitted. Your clinician will talk through the process and ensure you are comfortable removing the aligners and give advice on oral health and cleaning your aligners. You will then be given a number of sets to change at set intervals.
3
Review appointments will take place regularly (every 6-8 weeks) to make sure your treatment is progressing well and if necessary, to make any adjustments.
4
Once your treatment is complete and you are happy with the results and your new dream smile, full aftercare will be provided including retainers to maintain your smile and ensure the results last.

Invisalign for kids

Invisalign treatment can be a great solution for teens as well as adults. The innovations and technological advancements make it possible to fix nearly all common teeth-straightening and bite issues, from simple to complex. And, thanks to a discreet blue dot on the outside of teen aligners, parents can be sure their child is wearing their clear aligners enough.

Invisalign First is a new treatment that can improve children’s smiles as they grow. As a child grows, their smile grows with them. And even with baby teeth, it may be the perfect time for children aged 6 to 10 to start orthodontic treatment. This is known as Phase 1 treatment. The goal of Phase 1 treatment is to develop young jaws and/or arches to make room for existing teeth and for incoming permanent teeth. Contact the practice for more information about Invisalign for kids.

See your new smile with a free 3D scan

Included in your treatment is a no obligation free 3D scan with our iTero scanner, an intra-oral scan that is a non-invasive advanced scanning technology. We will use a scanning wand over your teeth which will take pictures of all angles of your teeth and generates a 3D model, including how they bite together. From this scan, we can generate an Invisalign simulation, accurately showing what your smile could look like with Invisalign treatment.

Invisalign Aftercare

To ensure your teeth remain straight after Invisalign treatment you will need to wear a retainer. A retainer is in the form of a removable plastic device which is worn at night and/or a fixed wire device that is fitted to the back of your teeth. If you lose or break the retainer, then it would need replacing. By wearing and maintaining your retainer, this will ensure your dream smile lasts a lifetime.

Will Invisalign work for me?

The intra-oral scan that is completed before starting your treatment will indicate to your Invisalign Doctor if Invisalign treatment would be suitable based on your individual case and deliver the outcome you desire. Throughout your treatment, you will attend appointments so your Invisalign Doctor can ensure everything is progressing as it should. This allows them to adjust the treatment if needed.

When should I look at alternative straightening/treatment options?

Some patients may not be suitable for Invisalign and your Invisalign doctor at St John’s Dental Practice will be able to suggest alternative treatments if this is the case.

What changes to my diet/lifestyle should I expect with Invisalign?

With Invisalign, you are required to wear the aligners for 22 hours per day – only taking them out to eat and drink (excluding water). You will still be able to enjoy all your favourite food and drinks, however it is important to brush your teeth before putting your aligners back in as the sugar build up can lead to high chances of decay. It is also advised that patients do not smoke whilst undergoing their Invisalign treatment.

Is Invisalign painful? / Is Invisalign comfortable?

Some people will feel a little discomfort when they change their aligners, but for most people this is temporary as their teeth adjust to the new set of aligners. If the discomfort lasts for longer than a few days, contact your Invisalign Doctor.

Will Invisalign affect my speech / change my face?

Most people report no effect on speech. However, as with traditional orthodontics, there’s an initial adjustment period to having something new on your teeth.
